| Summary: | The Ecuadorian literature of the 1930s has been several times read with a traditional perspective which separates between texts of avant-garde and texts of social realism. All those works have been thought trough a strict dichotomy represented by two paradigmatic authors: Pablo Palacio and Jorge Icaza. This critic procedure has been an obstacle for reading and understanding certain texts with heterogenic features such as the collection of short stories Los que se van, by Demetrio Aguilera Malta, Enrique Gil Gilbert and Joaquín Gallegos Lara, published in 1930. Even if it was read as an icon of the literary realism, the text merges motivations and resources from both mentioned literacy inflections. The analysis of its aesthetic procedures, such as montage, ellipsis and the special use of language allows us to relate the text with the pursue of one particular sector of the Latin American avant-garde combining the formal experimentation with a strong intention of social representation and complaint. |
