Descrição
Resumo:Quitumbe’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, in the city of Quito presented Bulking in its prolonged aeration through activated sludges process, which developed foaming on the biological reactors’ surface, therefore, to solve it, the historical and experimental data from the quality of water and operation parameters have been statistically analyzed and contrasted with the permissible limits for “discharges into water streams” regulations issued by; The Ministerial Agreement 097-A and The Metropolitan Ordinance 404 in order to evaluate contaminants removal. Being also calculated a model focused on the review of the existing design to compare the current operative conditions against the calculated ones. Lastly, concluding that the origin of the sludge bulking is purely operational, two proposals were made: The first entails the addition of a stabilizer substance (calcium hydroxide) into the biological reactor; and the second one, based on the efficient operation, consists in programming the purge of the excess sludges.
