Para su ratificación y posterior promulgación dentro de los Estados y su incorporación a las fuentes jurídicas internas, se establecen procedimientos de diferentes formas. Este trabajo de centró en una: el procedimiento que por iniciativa ciudadana se pueda solicitar para la ratificación de tratados internacionales mediante referéndum. En Ecuador, este procedimiento se encuentra regulado en el art. 420 de la Constitución. El objetivo de la investigación estuvo centrado en analizar dicho procedimiento. El enfoque de análisis tuvo el carácter de teórico y jurídico. Los resultados permitieron concluir que nos encontramos ante un procedimiento constitucional de democracia directa de enorme importancia, debido a que la ciudadanía puede empoderarse de las decisiones públicas tradicionalmente centradas en el Estado y los partidos políticos.The development of this work showed that international treaties are legal instruments that facilitate relations between the Nations. These have created rights and obligations between the parties, fomenting and promoting cooperation and economic development. For ratification and subsequent promulgation within the States and their incorporation into the domestic legal sources, different procedures are established. This work of focused on one: the procedure that may apply for the ratification of international treaties by referendum by citizen initiative. In Ecuador, this procedure is regulated in article 420 of the Constitution. The objective of the research was focused on analyzing this procedure. The focus of analysis had the theoretical and legal character.
