| Sumario: | The relationship with society has focused on managing community activities that promote care for vulnerable groups. The Metropolitan University of Ecuador has identified that schizophrenia stands out among the different pathologies found in the San Juan de Dios Shelter. In five years of work of that institution, no research has been carried out to assess the cognitive profile of users, nor how it could be used in planning health education activities and in their social reintegration. Considering this need, the present study was carried out, with the aim of neuropsychologically characterizing the users with schizophrenia of the San Juan de Dios Shelter, in Quito, Ecuador, in the period June - December 2019. The sample consisted of 30 patients with schizophrenia. To evaluate the mental state, the neuropsychological batteries Mini Mental State Examination and Brief Neuropsychological Evaluation were applied. It was known that the majority belonged to the male gender and came from the city of Quito. Employees and education levels predominated from 5 to 9 years. Unspecified schizophrenia prevailed, at ages 31 to 65. Regarding the level of education, the 5-9 years predominated. Most of the users were at a normal cognitive level. The tests applied allowed to obtain quantitative and qualitative data that favor the development of an individualized program of health education and social reintegration, based on the neuropsychological profile constructed for each user. |
