Sumario:Competency management applied to the pharmaceutical industry is intended to be a tool for improving the administration of their human talent. There are no rigorous studies on the professional profile in pharmaceutical establishments in the city ofQuito-Ecuador. The objective of the research was to validate information from the point of view of the employers about the three profiles in the pharmaceutical sector: pharmacies’ assistant, visitor to doctor and logistics assistant. The surveys gave the following results: 61.75% of the pharmacy assistants are high school graduates and 58.97% of the visitors are Superior Technologists (33.33%) and Bachelors (25.64%); 40% of logistical assistants have a bachelor's degree. The specific skills required in the pharmacy assistants were: management of rotation statistics, customer service, medication reception and stock control. They are the most important link between the patient and the doctor. The visitor to the doctor must have competences in knowledge of the benefits of their products, negotiation skills and sales techniques. The logistics assistant must know the complete logistics chain of the sector that includes the protocols, flow diagrams, procedures and processes. Although the majority of employers in the pharmaceutical industry agree that it is important to hire qualified personnel with specific skills for this sector, there is no national regulatory support for hiring these profiles with at least one third level degree.
