| Resumo: | While the care provided to people with disabilities has improved in recent years, the isssue of physical and sexual abuse and violence towards this population cannot yet be considered resolved in our society. Therefore, the aim of this research is to investigate the factors related to these issues, with a focus on sexual abuse and the specific risk factors suffered by those with intellectual disabilities and associated with their particular personal, social, and family conditions. The study also examines the difficulties associated with the fact that professionals are not sufficiently trained to detect such conditions and/or their behavioral and psychological expressions and thus lend credibility to the suspicion of such acts, and, in accordance, denounce them |
