Sumario:The objective of the present study is to analyze the causes and consequences of financial speculation in the economy of Ecuador during the 90's. In the last years of this period, the transition from the change of currency (Sucre-dolar American) was given. The research identifies the risk caused by a speculative atmosphere in the Ecuadorian economy, based with review of the literature and descriptive analysis, in order to explain the classics measures adopted at that time. It is concluded, one of the most vulnerable was the financial, given that the new system of liberalization of capital and the economic and financial crisis that existed in the country led to the mobility of financial capital in the short term to the outside, with the purpose of finding stable markets for better profits investors, which also caused great speculation with the American foreign currency (dollar).
