Descripción
Sumario:This paper presents the results of a comparative study on changes in income at the household level, using two databases generated in the same farm plots: 418 households in 1990 and 658 households in 1999 in the northern Ecuadorian Amazon. The off-farm income became the main source of income for migrant settlers in this area, from 25% in 1990 to 43% in 1999, while farm agricultural income decreased from 74% in 1990 to 56% in 1999. However, timber income increased from 0.8% in 1990 to 13.4% of total household income in 1999. In general, the local population experienced a poverty increase represented in absolute terms by the total average household income decreased by USD 396 from 1990 to1999.
