Resumo:The objective of this paper is to analyze the role of ideology in the process of economic integration in the Andean region. The main argument is that the empirical evidence shows that ideology has been present in the Andean debates from the very beginning of the integration process in the late 1960s. The paper analyzes the various ideological debates in various periods throughout the 50 years and the extent to which those debates have influenced on the advances and setbacks of the Andean integration. The final section examines to what extent ideological differences or similarities can be considered as important variables to evaluate the development of the Andean integration
