Descripción
Sumario:The wastewater treatment plant in Cuenca is located in the northeast of the city, in the area called Ucubamba. The main objectives aimed by the treatment plant can be summarized in the following ones: intercepting and conducting the water which formerly flowed to the rivers that run through the city and returning clean water to the environment. The ETAPA wastewater treatment plant is constituted by a preliminary treatment structure consisting of: settling tank, bypass, floodgates, mechanical screens, and grit chambers. After preliminary treatment of wastewater, the biological treatment stage starts, and it consists of three phases: aerated lagoons, facultative lagoons, and maturation lagoons. After the water is in suitable condition, it is moved by an unblock system which takes treated wastewater to the Cuenca River; this water can be safely reused in agriculture, hydropower, recreation, etc.
