Sumario:The aim of this work was to detect the habitat mostly used by the green iguana, considering the effect of stray animals and landscape degradation by means of a rapid assessment on the banks of the Milagro River in the city of Milagro, Guayas, Ecuador. Several samplings were performed along five sections of the riverbanks to count the iguanas, street dogs and cats. In addition, the available vegetation and estimate the pollution observed in each section of the riverbanks of the Milagro River was quantified. The observations demonstrate that the populations of street dogs and cats do not influence the occurrence of green iguanas; however, a representative number of iguanas from the locality tends to agglomerate in areas with less pollution and more available vegetation, areas that overlap with the most distant sections of the river from the city center.
