The type of research was exploratory in which the deductive method affected with its techniques was used, this has served to structure the epistemological foundations on comprehensive reading and its influence on the development of critical thinking, as well as to structure and validate a proposal that manages to solve the problem detected. To meet the objective, five comprehensive reading methodological strategies are needed which are the applications helped students to competent readers and framed with the qualities of a critical thinker. These strategies were aimed at developing the five levels of reading that helped develop critical thinking skills in students. After the proposal was developed, it was validated and executed with short results; the acquisition of new working methodologies for the teacher, creation of the habit of reading and interest on the part of the students, better performance in the acquisition of learning and, finally and better reading performance in terms of the literal and inferential level, in the end instance improved the way students communicate.El presente trabajo investigativo se desarrolló en el Centro Educativo el Sembrador ubicada en la Parroquia San Juan de Pastocalle, con el propósito de responder al siguiente problema, ¿Cómo incide la lectura comprensiva en el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico?, el mismo que desplego como objetivo, mejorar el bajo nivel de lectura y promover el pensamiento crítico de los estudiantes. El tipo de investigación fue de carácter exploratoria en el cual se empleó del método deductivo conjuntamente con sus técnicas, esto ha servido para estructurar los fundamentos epistemológicos sobre la lectura comprensiva y su influencia en el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico, así mismo, para estructurar y validar una propuesta que logre resolver el problema detectado. Para cumplir con el objetivo se desarrolló cinco estrategias metodológicas de lectura comprensiva las cuales al ser utilizadas ayudaron a los estudiantes a ser lectores competentes y enmarcados con las cualidades de un pensador crítico. Estas estrategias fueron dirigidas a desarrollar los cinco niveles de lectura las mismas que ayudaron a desarrollar habilidades del pensamiento crítico en los estudiantes. Posterior al desarrollo de la propuesta, se concluyó que la aplicación de nuevas metodologías de lectura por parte del docente, generó en los estudiantes el hábito de lectura e interés, así mismo, un mejor rendimiento en la adquisición del aprendizaje, un alto desempeño de lectura en cuanto al nivel literal e inferencial, en última instancia se mejoró la forma de comunicación de los estudiantes y se desplegó procesos mentales como la reflexión, análisis y síntesis.Ecuador: Latacunga: Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi: UTCCárdenas Quintana, Raúl Bolívar.
