This research proposed to contribute to improving environmental quality through objectives: Determining the ecological footprint derived from academic and administrative activities of the campus "Guillermo Espinosa Falconí"; and, proposing technical recommendations to optimize the use of resources derived of the ecological footprint. To perform this investigation, information about CO2 emissions were collected from statistical data and direct consumption in three different layers: student, teaching and administrative in the whole study areas (AARNR, AJSA, AEAC). Once these results known, it was lead to literature sources on good environmental practices applicable to the environmental reality and their integration into the university community. The study found a footprint of 530,29 ha/year, corresponding to a per capita ecological footprint of 0,08 ha/year. Finally, guidelines were proposed to help to contribute the sustainability in the use of resources within the study area.La naturaleza provee a los seres humanos de un conglomerado constante de recursos naturales necesarios para satisfacer las necesidades básicas. La huella ecológica basa su análisis en determinar la cantidad de recursos consumidos y generados en un área determinada y su impacto sobre el planeta. La presente investigación propuso contribuir al mejoramiento de la calidad ambiental a través de los objetivos: Determinar la huella ecológica derivada de las actividades académicas y administrativas de la Ciudad Universitaria “Guillermo Falconí Espinosa”; y, plantear recomendaciones técnicas que permitan optimizar el uso de los recursos que derivan la huella ecológica. Para efectuar la presente investigación, se recolectó información de las emisiones de CO2 a partir de datos estadísticos y consumos directos en tres estratos diferentes: estudiantil, docente y administrativo de las áreas de estudio (AARNR, AJSA, AEAC). Una vez conocidos estos resultados, se acudió a fuentes bibliográficas sobre buenas prácticas ambientales aplicables a la realidad ambiental y su inserción en la comunidad universitaria. El estudio determinó una huella ecológica de 530, 29 ha/año, correspondiente a una huella ecológica per cápita de 0,08 ha/año.
