In order to characterize the physiochemical and microbiological parameters, multiple factors were taken into account such as the current Ecuadorian environmental legislation (Ministerial agreement No 097-A, Annex 1 from book VI, tables 2 and 2-a, Official Record 387, June 4, 2015), and the historic records of the ravine of 2012, 2013, and 2014. Moreover, the study of aquatic macroinvertebrates was carried out through the BMWP index to characterize the water quality running through the Ortega ravine and its tributaries. Three zones of the Ortega ravine were analyzed to define their behavior, they were the upper middle and lower part of it and their environmental implicationsEl presente estudio se basa en analizar la eficiencia sanitaria de las obras hidráulicas construidas para descontaminar la Quebrada Ortega por parte de la EPMAPS. Se  realiza  el estudio hidráulico e hidrológico del sector de la quebrada Ortega, mediante el cual se definió las épocas lluviosa y seca. Para la definición de los parámetros físico-químicos y microbiológicos, se toma como referente la legislación ambiental vigente ecuatoriana, indicada en el Acuerdo Ministerial No. 097-A, Anexo 1 del libro VI, tabla 2 y tabla 2-a, Registro Oficial 387, del 4 de junio de 2015, además de los registros históricos de la quebrada Ortega de los años 2012, 2013, 2014. Adicionalmente se realiza el estudio de macroinvertebrados acuáticos, como indicadores de la calidad ecológica de las aguas de la quebrada Ortega y sus afluentes, a través del índice BMWP.
