Descripción
Sumario:This work is an analysis of the character Mariana in the story “Capítulo dos chapéus” by Joaquim M. Machado de Assis from the perspective of the heroine of Dana Heller. It argues that Mariana’s exploration of the public domain (the street) can be interpreted as a journey of searching for the heroine. Mariana represents the romantic heroine who breaks her schemes to become a more complex character. The journey ontologically questions the character of universality of the journey of the male hero of Joseph Campbell. Through the parody of the use of the hat, the masculine world is unmasked as banal and the private sphere is revalued as a space for the realization of the individual.
