Sumario:Intelligence has traditionally understood as a general factor associated with learning ability and success in life, and has the characteristics of being genetic and unchangeable. This view persists among the general public and hence their media connotations. Gardner proposed the differentiation of 7 types of intelligence: verbal, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, kinesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal. We know that in our educational system, in most educational institutions exclusively cultivates both types of intelligence: verbal and math, at least consciously and deliberately. This thesis aims to improve the academic performance / students of the eighth year of the Education Unit Vásconez Cuvi Victoria, of Latacunga city, by developing emotional intelligence in students. First we proceeded to collect data through surveys of students, parents and teachers in the eighth year of this institution, with these results it was concluded that there is a relationship between the development of emotional intelligence and academic performance. Conducting workshops for teachers, so that they contribute to the optimal development of emotional intelligence of students is proposed.
