He studied Philosophy and Literature in Cuenca, Hispanic Philology in Madrid and French Literature in Provence. Member of the Ecuadorian Academy of Language, he received several awards and distinctions such as the Eugenio Espejo Award for his career and his works. As a tribute to his memory, a critical commentary is added to a personal anthology of his short stories entitled Juegos de Proteo (2012).Este texto recuerda y enaltece al hombre, y a la vez al polifacético escritor y profesor universitario Juan Valdano, quien cultivó el ensayo, la investigación, la novela y el cuento. Evoca al ecuatoriano que celebró al país al dedicar más de una obra a nuestra forma de ser, a nuestra idiosincrasia y a nuestro sentido de nación. Estudió Filosofía y Letras en Cuenca, Filología Hispánica en Madrid y Letras Francesas en Provence. Miembro de la Academia Ecuatoriana de la Lengua, recibió varios premios y distinciones como el Premio Eugenio Espejo por su trayectoria y sus obras.
