Resumo:This research valued the family functionality and certain common diabetes risk factors with the limited joint mobility syndrome, in people between ages from 40 to 79 in the urban area of Zaruma, El Oro province, 2016. The study is analytical, correlational and cross-sectional, in two groups, in 120 diabetes patients, and (240), without diabetes patients, which were selected by simple random sample through the program EPIDAT v. 4.1. Data were analyzed by the statistical program SPSS v.16, Sociodemographic variables are showed through inferential tables with prevalence and specific rates, accompanied by descriptive data; As well as the confidence limits at 95%. lt was determined the association of the risk factors with an CI at 95%, getting a Chi value higher than the tabulated Chi, and value of p <0.05, a moderate dependency between variables (Cramer´s V = 0.388). occupying within the rejection zone of the Ho hypothesis. Limited Joint Mobility Syndrome (SMAL as its acronyms in Spanish) was founded in the35.8% of diabetics and 23.8% non-diabetics patients, the family functionality associated with the SMAL the greatest association was on the without diabetes with the dysfunction, with p = 0,00. With risk factors, the nephropathy had more association with diabetics with p = 0.00. In non-diabetics, the greatest association was with the cigarette with a p = 0, 00. In non-diabetics the greatest association was with the cigarette with a p = 0.00 It is concluded, that dysfunctionality is related to non-diabetics with the SMAL.
