| Sumario: | This work is framed within the concept of sustainable development as a model that seeks to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work framed within the environmental, economic and social axes. The research analyze the characteristics and conditions of waste pickers' associations in the city of Cuenca, in order to determine whether their formation is considered an adequate strategy for sustainable development or simply a survival strategy for vulnerable groups. The methodology used was descriptive, cross-sectional and exploratory, focusing on the study of 168 associated recyclers registered in EMAC-EP. The results show that collective sales in the associations is not an explanatory and influential variable in the level of income of an associated recycler. The main conclusion shows that associative recycling does not present features of efficiency, decent work and economic growth, despite having as a principle the inclusion of vulnerable groups, which does not provide guarantees that favor sustainable development. |
