Sumario:The author examines the FTTA negotiations from their initial stages until the present. The article analyses the process of trade and investment liberalization applied by Latin America countries in recent years as a way to promote their integration into the World economy. Robert describes the structure and organization of FTAA negotiations, the roles and attributions of its groups and committees, and, finally, reports on the current negotiation process, which has concluded its first two stages.
