Sumario:Based on an exhaustive bibliographical review, this article gathers the current state of incubation processes in several countries and the referential framework that must apply universities that want to implement a successful university incubator in Ecuador. The results reveal that not all the existing incubators in the country meet the demanding requirements of the National Secretariat of Science and Technology, so that of only eighteen existing incubators, only 14 have accreditation to incubate companies under quality standards, in addition shows that there is a weak presence of universities supporting entrepreneurship and innovation processes in the country. And in this sense the Technical University of Machala if it wants to specify strong processes of applied research must choose the type of incubator that best responds to its institutional reality
