The objective of this reflection was to analyze and to be effective the international and national regulation on the sustainable development, having as parameter to the Ecuadorian State. Through a method of legal - descriptive research, the emblematic regulations of sustainable development were studied and what are their practical applications. Faced with the challenge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, where there are seventeen goals (GG) ahead, this essay set out how ambitious they are and concluded how Ecuador has the legal tools to acquire them, remaining the unknown and the possibility of reaching them.Este ensayo se enfoca en el estudio del desarrollo sostenible desde una visión jurídica. Disertamos sobre qué es realmente el desarrollo sostenible, sobre cuál fue su origen y cómo ha sido tanto su evolución como estructuración desde el ámbito normativo internacional. Igualmente, se examinó cómo el sistema legal ecuatoriano adoptó este concepto en la Constitución de 2008 y en sus diversos cuerpos legislativos internos. El objetivo de esta reflexión fue analizar si resulta eficaz la regulación internacional y nacional sobre el desarrollo sostenible, teniendo como parámetro al Estado ecuatoriano. Mediante un método de investigación jurídico - descriptivo, se estudiaron las regulaciones emblemáticas del desarrollo sostenible y cuáles serían sus aplicaciones prácticas.
