Sumario:This article analyzes the way in which two important earthquakes affected the conformation of the city of Cartago. It discusses the effects in the daily life, demographics and architecture, as well as in the Costa Rican legislation. Product of earthquakes undergone during century XIX, the process of reconstruction of the city accelerated the incorporation of elements of modernity and other architectonic languages.
