El concepto de novum explica algunos cambios presentes en la novela, en relación con la tradición ligada a la poética de la ciencia ficción de Darko Suvin y con la idea de la dialéctica entre el contexto de escritura/producción y el contexto diegético del texto (literario o fílmico), con el fin de comprender cuáles razones motivan el cambio dentro de la denominada actual ciencia ficción neoliberal.
