As a result, it was possible to confirm sociolinguistic differences related to age, schooling and the use of one language or the other according to the communicative context. Con base en las historias sociolingüísticas individuales (conocidas también como «historias de vida» o «biografías lingüísticas») de seis bilingües de español y guaymí, se muestran los indicios del desplazamiento del guaymí a favor del español. Esto se ha organizado en una entrevista semiestructurada que sirvió de guía para la conversación entre los entrevistados y la investigadora. Como resultado, se comprobaron diferencias sociolingüísticas relativas a la edad, la escolaridad y el empleo de una u otra lengua según el contexto comunicativo.
