The selected cases are fascism, nationalism, and Francoism during the civil war and the first years of the post war. All the cases have a tendency to exaggerate death more than the dead as a resource of legitimacy of the dictator or the group. Death policies are supported to legitimize the living.La muerte siempre estuvo presente en las sociedades. En la época contemporánea se exacerbó su significado con fines políticos. Este estudio analiza tres casos distintos, aunque relacionados con el tema de la manipulación de la muerte y la creación de una religión política. Se estudia su relación con las políticas dictatoriales y totalitarias. Los casos seleccionados son el fascismo, el nacionalsocialismo para concluir en el franquismo durante la guerra civil y los primeros años de post guerra. Todos los casos muestran una tendencia a exagerar la muerte, más que a los muertos, como recurso de legitimación del dictador o del grupo.
