Sumario:This article describes the origins of oral history and environmental history in Costa Rica, and presents fundamental aspects of pedagogic experience in environmental history in the Conservation and Wildlife Management Post-Graduate Program at the National University. Two hypotheses direct this exploration: a) the main environmental changes –those that give way to the current environmental crisis in Costa Rica and spur the environmental movement- take place in the threshold of historic a 1 memory of our times, and, b) the communitarian environmental history, rebuilt through oral testimonies and converging with other historical methodologies, enhances local environmental movements and higher education.
