In 12 of the 97 dogs canines only ticks of the Amblyomma genus were recovead, and one case presented a mixed infestation with Rhipicephalus sanguineus and A. cajennense. The rest of the infested dogs were single infested with Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Significant differences were not found in relation to place, time of the year or specific stages. Among the identified significant differences between months, however, in the months of May, June and September there were greater amounts of ticks and greater amount of infested dogs with R. sanguineus. A description of the areas where the presence of R. sanguineus was detected and stastics about the molting length of R. sanguineus nymphs under laboratory conditions are shown in this report. Durante un año calendario, de septiembre de 2001 a agosto de 2002, se recolectaron garrapatas en perros que fueron llevados a 5 clínicas veterinarias de Mora, Santa Ana y Escazú, una región ubicada en un área de marcada estacionalidad de lluvias. En ese período, las garrapatas se clasificaron según género, especie, estadio, época del año y se cuantificaron. Durante el año, se recolectaron garrapatas en 97 perros, de un total de 5980 caninos. En 12 de los 97 caninos, se recuperaron únicamente garrapatas del género Amblyomma, en un caso huno una infestación mixta Rhipicephalus sanguineus y A.cajennense y en el resto de los perros infestados (84) se encontraron sólo ejemplares del género Rhipicephalus. No se hallaron diferencias significativas en cuanto a cantón, época del año ni presencia de determinados estadios, según época. Entre las especies de Amblyomma identificadas están: A. cajennense, A. maculatum, A. ovale y A. pecarium. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre meses; sin embargo, en los meses de mayo, junio y setiembre se presentaron las mayres cantidades de garrapatas y la mayor cantidad de perros infestados con R. sanguineus. Se reseñan los cantones en donde se ha informado de la presencia de R. sanguineus en Costa Rica y se indican algunos datos estadísticos sobre la duración de la muda de las ninfas de R. sanguineus bajo condiciones de laboratorio.
