The study starts by defining the concept of landscape in order to develop two fundamental historical-religious events: the emergence of the πóλις and the rise of the monumental Greek temple. Moreover, these creations, both the πóλις and the monumental temple -and the constituent elements of the sanctuaries in which they were located- constitute geosymbols that characterize the mythical-religious identity of Hellas. In this regard, the analysis of the landscape from the perspective of the Greek μὓθος represents a key to understand the scope of the Hellenic mythical-religious imagination.
