Sumario:One of the important aspects that concern every family is the duty of parenting, one of its main responsibilities within the institution of parental authority. However, there is concern that the exercise of this authority is carried out in a negligent, authoritarian, or violent manner. The use of physical and humiliating punishment has become normalized in the daily life of Costa Rican society and changing family dynamics are used as justification to perpetuate its use, driven by the urgent need to correct behaviors considered inappropriate. Nevertheless, far from modifying behaviors, habits are created that are reproduced in other spaces, such as educational institutions. This situation highlights the need for both social actors (families and schools) to join efforts and become educators for peace. A closer look is taken at the realities, the patterns of Costa Rican parenting, and the possibility of harmonizing parenting and formal education to achieve peaceful coexistence.
