Descripción
Sumario:It is always difficult to make beginner level students lose the fear to speak in English due to different factors like students’ lack of confidence, insecurity, lack of motivation, fear, among others. Therefore, students need to feel motivated to communicate in English in class for a real purpose, so that they can use English in different social contexts, not just the class. This study contemplates the students’ contributions and their opinions to make them active participants of the English lessons. The presentation includes some theoretical information on the field, the results and findings of a survey carried out to some beginner students, the use of innovative activities like communicative video projects, songs and realia based activities which were selected by the students plus the results achieved after implementing those activities and some recommendations that help learners gain confidence. Additionally some possible solutions to help other EFL professors to face this issue will be given.
