Sumario:The Surinamese lawyer and botanist Hendrik (Henri) Charles Focke (Paramaribo, 1802-1856) originally described the genus Plectrophora in 1848 in the journal of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, on the basis of a plant native from his home country. In 1891, Joâo Barbosa Rodrigues coined for the same genus the name Jansenia, basing it on J. cultrifolia, from a plant collected on the shores of Yauapery river in northern Brazil and eventually transferred to Plectrophora by A. Cogniaux in 1904.
