This is followed by the study of historical evolution of freedomof expression in the International Human Rights Law. Lastly, the article evaluates the jurisprudentialrole of the Inter-American Human Rights System in the protection of freedom ofexpression in the American Continent.El artículo trata de la actuación del Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos como unode los centinelas más avanzados de la libertad de expresión y del orden democrático en lasAméricas. Primeramente se enfatizó, de manera bastante sucinta, en los fundamentos filosóficosde la libertad como valor intrínseco al ser humano y pilar de un orden democrático justo. En elpunto siguiente se destacó la evolución histórica de la libertad de expresión en el ámbito delderecho internacional de los derechos humanos. En la última parte se evaluó el compromiso  del Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos en la protección de la libertad de expresiónen las Américas.O artigo aborda o desempenho do Sistema Interamericano de Direitos Humanos como umdos sinais mais avançados da liberdade de expressão e da ordem democrática nas Américas. Aprincípio, foi enfatizado, de forma muito sucinta, os fundamentos filosóficos da liberdade comovalor intrínseco dos seres humanos e pilar de uma justa ordem democrática.
