| Sumario: | In the framework of the so-called history of war theories, this article discusses the scope and limitations of the classic and contemporary theories about a Just War. It identifies the roots of differentiation between just and acceptable wars, and unjust and condemnable wars, using theories from Augustine of Hippo, St. Thomas Aquinas, Groccio, Kant, Hegel, Walzer’s, among others. The article concludes with a discussion on the implications of the just war in the terms of the jurist and philosopher, Luigi Ferrajoli, who reflects upon contemporary conflicts in the complex framework of law, war and cosmopolitan democracy. |
