Sumario:The use of residual biomass for energy has been widely accepted globally due to the continuous growth of energy demand, food security and the rejection of the use of fossil fuels as they are the cause of high CO2 emission into the atmosphere. In this research, it was studied the use of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and plantain crop residues named in this study as banana of the musa acuminata species (BCR, pseudostem and rachis) as substrates in the anaerobic digestion process for the production of methane, while it was studied the steam explosion (SE) as a pretreatment to increase the biodegradability of BCR. The biomethane potential (BMP) was carried out taking into account the international standard VDI 4630. The biodegradability rate of BCRs increased by 25% when they were pretreated with SE at 180 ° C for 10 min. For its part, OFMSW is an ideal substrate due to its high biodegradability, and it can be used to improve the digestion processes of other substrates. As a result of the codigestion of OFMSW and BCR, 457.47 LCH4 / kg VS was obtained, equivalent to 201.85 kWh / t of wet biomass. In addition, the most important aspects were presented to carry out a biogas plant from pseudostem in places with low energy demand and availability of land for banana plantations, 6.26 kWh and 0.6 ha respectively
