The instinct death appears as an impossible subject for the psychoanalysis and despite of this its conceptualisation is fundamental.El artículo pretende mostrar las modificaciones que se presentan en la teoría psicoanalítica a partir de la presencia del concepto de pulsión de muerte. Antes de la pulsión de muerte, existían demasiadas dificultades para explicar ciertos fenómenos propios del súper yo o de los límites que se encontraban en los procesos terapéuticos.
