| Sumario: | Traditional structural systems are based on the combination of resistance, stiffness and plastic energy dissipation capacity of the structural elements in order to control the seismic response of structures. In that sense, seismic protection systems have emerged, such as alternative that increase the energy dissipation capacity of the structure, reducing the damage level in structural elements. This research seeks to determine the Response Reduction Coefficient (R) of 4 reinforced concrete buildings with buckling restrained braces (BRB), of different heights (4, 8, 12 and 16 floors), located in a high seismic hazard zone. The design of the structures is carried out according to the NSR-10 and ASCE 07-16 guidelines, taking into account BRB added energy dissipation to the structural systems. The Oviedo et al. (2010) method is applied to determining the geometric and mechanical properties of buckling-restrained braces (BRB). It should be noted that the Colombian design code does not contemplate the use of buckling restrained braces as dissipation elements, and that concrete frames are widely used in the country |
