Summary:ABSTRACT: The aim of this work was to compare the superovulatory response and the quantity and quality of recovered embryos in Holstein cows at the Sabana de Bogotá, through the application of buserelin at day 6 of the oestrus cycle, before starting the superovulatory treatment. The work was performed at the Sabana de Bogotá, at 2640 mosl, with an average temperature of 12 °C. 20 female bovines of Holstein breed were injected with FSH (Vetrepharm Inc, Ontario, Ccanada) to induce superovulation at days 11,12,13,and 14 of oestrus cycle, using a total dose of 20 cc per cow, and 3 cc of PGF2a (Pharmacia & Upjohn, Kalamazoo, MI, USA) with the last dose of FSH. Ten cows (treatment group) received buserelin (Hoechst Roussel Vet, München, Alemania) on day 6 of estrous cycle, before starting superovulatroy treatment. The remaining ten cows were considered as control group. The results show significative difference between treatment and control group regarding superovulatory response (p< 0,05). It was not found a significative difference between treatment and control group regarding the number of recovered embryos (p>0,05).
