| Resumo: | This research discusses the measurement that the monitors perform of tourism competitiveness. It provides a comparison among the evolution of Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index and the tourism development level based on the sectorial production. 15 countries grouped according their tourism competitive potential are analyzed during the period 2008-2015, aiming to present evidence that the measure of competitiveness, actually, are in disagree with the production sector level. This lack of correlation can lead to misinterpretations. The results showed that despite losing tourism competitiveness, the country may to improve the number of tourism jobs, the foreign tourist spending and the total investment in the sector. This lack of direct relation was observed in the three groups of countries, nevertheless, is more accentuated in countries with smaller economic and touristic development. |
