| Sumario: | Innovation is a concept closely linked to the competitiveness of nations, economic sectors and companies. The objective of this research is to validate the correlation between these variables at the empirical level and support the results by analyzing the Colombian Science, Technology and Innovation sector. For this, a statistical correlation test was performed between the Global Competitiveness Index and the Global Innovation Index for the period 2011-2017, which showed a positive general trend among these variables, thus justifying the theoretical approach. Additionally, the data from the innovation sector for the period 2000-2018 were analyzed in the light of the determinants of the competitive advantage of the Porter nations, in which innovation is crucial to create and maintain that advantage. Definitely, innovation is related to business, sector and national competitiveness, so it is necessary to configure public policies for its promotion and development. |
