Objective: to demonstrate the relevance of the practice of physical activities for the population of older adults. Methodology: Crosssectional qualitative research consisting of documentary review in databases SciELO, Dialnet, Google Scholar, Web of Science and Scopus; The compilation of academic articles achieved was subjected to inclusion and exclusion criteria, which finally left 30 texts, of which a classification is made using criteria that allow the central elements of each study to be unraveled. Findings: In recent years, the publication of articles corresponding to the research problem raised has grown; research favors cross-sectional studies due to their simplicity; Most studies suggest that physical activity has proven benefits in the quality of life of older adults. Conclusions: physical activity in the elderly brings improvements in the physical and psychological conditions of this population, which contribute to the management of other negative factors that can influence the well-being of people.
