| Sumario: | The processes of identifi cation and diff erentiation of the middle class are analyzed by a system of values and social categories that work as symbolic borders, through which their members establish limits that make a social distinction among them. The intention of this article is to illustrate how the members of the middle class of Cali create symbolic borders of separation through a group of categorizations. These categorizations while setting boundaries between individuals, also create ways for integration or exclusion, in a constantly changing context, as is characteristic of contemporary Colombian society. |
