| Sumario: | Attitude conflict in Latin America has surged significantly, affecting social and ideological processes, leading to conflicts rooted in fundamental disagreements. This study aims to validate the Receptiveness to Opposing Views (ROV) scale in a Colombian context. Receptiveness, defined as the willingness to access, consider, and evaluate opposing opinions impartially, is crucial for fostering constructive debates and reducing polarization. A factor analysis was carried out in a sample of Colombian residents (N = 506). The ROV scale, consisting of 18 items across four subscales—negative emotions, intellectual curiosity, derogation of opponents, and taboo issues—demonstrated high reliability and validity in measuring receptiveness. Exploratory factor analysis revealed a four-factor model, while confirmatory factor analysis supported this structure, indicating the scale's robustness in a Colombian sample. The findings highlight the importance of receptiveness in bridging ideological gaps, promoting social networks, and enhancing communication. The validated ROV scale provides a valuable tool for understanding and measuring receptiveness, offering insights into reducing attitude conflict and promoting peace in polarized societies. Future research should focus on refining the scale and exploring its application in other Latin American contexts to further enhance its utility. |
