Description
Summary:The National Statistics Institute (DANE) of Colombia has carried out several researches on poverty indicators but it is only recently that there is an attempt to analyze income distribution so as to explain the causes of relative poverty. Based on information on per capita income distributionrelated to social and demographic characteristics and data on labor income distribution, it is concluded that: - the greatest inequalities in income distribution are registered on capital revenues and occasional incomes, the lowest inequalities are those of salaries and transferences, - the principal source of income is labor, - the variable that explains the best the distribution of income among the employed is their educational level. Therefore this is an essential element for social mobility in Colombia, - and finally, there is an impotent difference between incomes perceived by men and women.
