Sumario:This research contributes to the understanding and critique of Chilean racism, describing from a genealogical perspective the development of the concept of “Chilean race”, since its formulation in the work of Nicolás Palacios until the present time. For this purpose, we analyze the works of Palacios, the debates around the concept of “Chilean race” and the contribution of critical theories to the understanding of racism. The document includes three chapters, which can be read as essays on cultural criticism in the field of political communication. The first chapter examines the concept of Chilean race and its connection with the emergence and consolidation of Chilean racism, adopting as an object of criticism the biography that Senén Palacios published on Nicolás Palacios, in order to describe, from a biographical overview, the central arguments of the Chilean doctor's work. The second chapter describes the debates and transformations around the concept of Chilean race in the public political discourse, from the publication of "Raza Chilena" to the present (1904-2020). The discussion is articulated around the history of the monument "Raza Chilena" or "Homenaje al Dr. Palacios" as a metaphor of the presence of Nicolás Palacios in the public space. In the third chapter there is a genealogical critique of the concept of Chilean race, taking as reference the contribution of diverse contemporary critical theories and the academic interpretations that have been made of Palacios' work. Based on these elements, the emergence of the concept of Chilean race and its evolution is studied in depth, interpreting this process as the formation of a political myth about the origins and foundations of the national community in Chile. The three chapters are preceded by a socio-historical context section, a conceptual framework and a methodological argument, which allow a better contextualization of the object of study and a more precise delimitation of the definitions used in the present work.
