Resumo:We present an experimental study of the pressure on the base of a two dimensional sandpile. A force dip in the center of the pile can be artificially produced by changing the lateral conditions on the first row of the pile. This support the idea that arching, capable to carry the weight of the pile, can be induced externally. A numerical study is in good agreement with these finding, for similar experimental conditions
