Sumario:The objective of this thesis is centered on the study of the contemporary manifestations of the historical novel; We know that the subject has given rise to numerous investigations that have been concerned with establishing the beginning of this genre —both in Europe and Latin America—, or the literary works that would make it up. On the other hand, a no lesser number of researchers have dedicated their effort to establish a margin of what can, and not, be called a historical novel; while the same has investigated the dichotomy of gender, either from the historical or literary side, an approach not alien to discussions that seek to delimit the terrain of both disciplines. However, what this thesis supports is that the studies that address the historical novel as the main theme, as time goes by, multiply and thus open new avenues of discussion that try to be a contribution to critical studies of the Historical fiction, which, without a doubt, despite "being [r] in crisis almost from its birth" (Alonso 1984: 15), continues to write and propose new ways of reading the historical past.
