Sumario:The industrialization and urbanization of the city of São Paulo are synchronous processes to the expansion of coffee farming and the development of capitalism in the State of São Paulo. The role of electricity in such a context, however, needs to be better understood. The purpose of this article was to analyze, through a literature review, the process of electrification of the city of São Paulo in order to analyze how it was driven by the industrialization and urbanization of the municipality, as well as to analyze to what extent it contributed to these processes. The article shows that, in addition to being an unfolding of improvements in the city, electricity played a key role in consolidating its industrialization process in São Paulo, as well as in building a new use of the city.
