Sumario:Introduction: Sleep is a major contributor to the physical and mental recovery of the body. Sleeping well enables people to perform well in their daily activities. The quality of sleep is directly linked to their daily production, but many seniors do not consider this data. Objectives: To assess the quality of sleep of non-institutionalized elderly in Teresina (PI) and identify problems related to sleep. Methods: It is a cross-sectional, descriptive and observational study held at Peace Village Subdivision Teresina (PI) with 65 elderly, where specific instruments were used for evaluation of sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index – PSQI) and instruments developed by researchers to socio-demographic, lifestyle and clinical history of the sample. Results: Out of the total number of participants, 63% (n =41) had poor sleep quality. Conclusion: The quality of sleep is an important factor for health, well-being of the elderly in general.
