Sumario:Introduction: Although military needs a good physical aptitude (AF) to perform their daily tasks, little is known about the current levels of AF of newly incorporated military personnel in the Brazilian Army and the relationship between good AF and quality of life. life of these military personnel. Objective: To analyze military physical fitness levels and to correlate these parameters with each other and with different parameters of health and quality of life. Materials and Methods: Sixty-eight soldiers, newly incorporated in the Army, were evaluated in 2016. The subjects were submitted to physical fitness and anthropometric parameters: maximal repetition test in the bench press, arm flexion test, abdominal resistance, 12-minute run (Cooper), bending test in fixed bar, stature, body mass, waist circumference and skinfolds. Depressive symptoms (PHQ-9) and quality of life (Whoqol-Bref) were also evaluated. Results: In general, physical fitness was below satisfactory (89.71% with "insufficient" mention in the Physical Fitness Test - TAF). No association was found between physical fitness parameters and quality of life. However, moderate positive correlations were found between maximal supine strength (1RM) and BMI (r = 0.51, p = 0.001), body mass (r = 0.44, p = 0.001) and resistance arm flexion (r = 0.57, p = 0.001). Conclusion: The physical conditioning of soldiers newly incorporated in the Army, is below the desirable level. In addition, there is no association of physical fitness with quality of life and mental health.
